Finding the "right" frequency for HF packet can be a frustrating 
experience, moving the dial  10Hz or 20Hz at a time, with fingers 
crossed and hoping for some sort of miracle.

I use the waterfall display in Spectrum Lab, but I used to use Digipan 
(I think). Just feed a sample of you rx audio to the sound card and tune 
until the incoming band of decoded audio is centred on the centre 
frequency of YOUR modem tone pair. It works miracles in taking away the 
guess work.
