1. add this to your /etc/apt/sources.list file
deb http://http.us.debian.org stable main
2. run "sudo apt-get install xastir"
26.8 MB will be needed
it will install tk8, gpsman, tcllib, libshp1, gpsmanshp, lesstif2, libax25,
proj, xastir
3. run "xastir"
