No worries. I didn't want to get yelled at for dragging discussion too
far off topic!
There are probably better forums to get info about soundmodem and
Xastir, but I also bet there are lots of people on this list that use
this combo too.
I'll try to help if I can.
Starting with soundmodem, an example of a working
/etc/ax25/soundmodem.conf is :-
----- snip ----
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<modem>
<configuration name="APRS">
<channel name="Channel 0">
<mod mode="afsk" bps="1200" f0="1200" f1="2200" diffenc="1"/>
<demod mode="afsk" bps="1200" f0="1200" f1="2200" diffdec="1"/>
<pkt mode="KISS" ifname="sm0" hwaddr="" ip="10.0.0.1"
netmask="255.255.255.0" broadcast="10.0.0.255" file="/dev/soundmodem0"
unlink="1"/>
</channel>
<chaccess txdelay="150" slottime="100" ppersist="40" fulldup="0"
txtail="10"/>
<audio type="soundcard" device="/dev/dsp" halfdup="0"/>
<ptt file="/dev/ttyS0"/>
</configuration>
</modem>
----- snip -----
You should be able to check receive audio levels using the inbuilt scope
functions of soundmodemconfig. Once you think you have levels correct,
you should be able to run soundmodem, and see decoded packets displayed
in the terminal window you started soundmodem from. If that works you
are well on your way.
Anyway, what problems are you having?
