Gordon,
this was only true with the early versions of Opentracker. (like TT)
with new OPENTRACKER called OT1plus you can switch between 300baud and 1200 
baud.
Only if you want to use PSK31 on HF you need to reload firmware.

I use it on HF with Yaesu FT100 and get good audio and good decodes.
But likewise the TTx you need to be careful with HF getting back into the 
tracker or cables.
