I have just written a program called OziWPL which will upload GPWPL to
OziExplorer. It is close to being ready - anyone wanting to try it out
should email me privately. It also works with the OpenTracker+ with
AntiTracker capability.

I will probably release it in the next week

break the chain on local v OS buying and to let you know I'm encouraging
our

cousins to buy VK (and DE, though that's an excellent freebie).  Whilst
I'm
at
it, any update on NetAPRS Darryl?

Until I find a better way, I'm using two GPS in my mobile set up, which
consists
of a D710 and iPAQ hx2490 running APRSDEC feeding OziExplorerCE. I use the
second GPS to keep the map centred on my location.  The iPAQ has a serial
feed
and a Bluetooth.  The first GPS is connected to the D710, which is
connected
to
the iPAQ via the serial connection into APRSDEC, which in turn interfaces
with
OziExplorerCE.  The second GPS is Bluetoothed to the iPAQ into
OziExplorerCE.
I'm very happy with the result.  A good quality mouse (I think you call
them
"puck" in the US) GPS is relatively inexpensive and Bluetooth isn't much
more,
so financially it's no great hardship.  I don't see why you couldn't use a
similar arrangement with a laptop.

By the way, I'm a great advocate of OziExplorer and OziExplorerCE for APRS
because of the ability to easily make my own maps suited to whatever use I
need
at the time.  On a desk or laptop I use NetAPRS  as the interface.  I
understand
that a version of APRSDEC will interface with the TomTom Navigator.

The $GPWPL strings are NMEA waypoint strings that are usually sent to
the attached GPS.

UI-View is an APRS program, and it is looking for APRS strings.

MapPoint is probably looking for NMEA strings such as $GPRMC and $GPGGA.

It would be nice to be able to leave the Kenwood in APRS mode, and
have the $GPWPL strings grabbed by a laptop, and shown on a map.
Instead of buying a big screen GPS, you could use the laptop to
display the stations around you. However, the laptop would not be able
to determine it's location to keep the map centered from the $GPWPL
data strings received from the Kenwood.

This type of operation would require a new program, or at least a new
routine to parse the waypoint data. UI-View is not going to be able to
add this functionality in, unless it is done by an add-on program.
