Hi Geoff...

If you can get hold of a KAM+ (plus) this would be the easiest way to
go! as then all you'll need is the TNC, VHF radio & HF radio. As the KAM
+ has X-port gateway in the firmware (v8.2 I have a copy of this image!)
let me know how you go and if you need a copy of this firmware.
