Hi Brian,
Like me, you've been around long enough to have seen it all before in
one form or another.
There will always be those ops who won't comply with whatever plan it is
while ever (pick as many answers as you like; extra points awarded for
ticking all boxes!);
a) the WIA is involved
b) a club is involved
c) a gentleman's agreement exists
d) they were told what they are doing doesn't comply
e) they were asked to change
f) they have an Amateur Operator's (insert grade) Certificate of
Proficiency, so they must know it all and be right all the time
And it's not just individuals, either, it has been happening between the
states since the first plans in the early 1970's to have coordinated 2m
frequencies across the nation. Then it was which packet networking
protocol will we use, Netrom or Rose? What a great idea, we'll use both
in the same state so the network is fragmented and users will become
disenchanted.
Given our tattered history, why should APRS be left alone :-(
Cheers,
a cynical, Ray vk2tv
