Thanks Ray,
As for the timer, I think I can answer my own question.
I remembered making a timer some years ago, which turned off a CB radio in
a tractor after about 4 hours, from memory. This allowed the operator to
be contacted by the CB even though the tractor was not running. The CB
is no longer used so I might grab the timer for this application.
It was basically a RC circuit into a 555 timer which drove a binary up
counter. It was a DSE kit from memory. It was designed to turn things on
rather than off so I had to fiddle it so while the ignition was on the
reset was held on as was the relay. When it timed out it de-latched the
relay which de powered the timer and attached CB.
As for Wide2-2, I think it might be the go as I travel from Sydney to
Wallsend (Newcastle) on a regular basis and sometimes as far up as Taree
and the Gloucester region.
Regards,
Shaun Pitcher

My understanding is that currently both new and old are in use but
transition to the new system is underway.

To gain an extra hop in remote, or light traffic density areas.
