[OZAPRS] Status of VK2AMW-4 ?

G'day,

As Geoff has mentioned, AMW-1 has yet to be upgraded to the new N-n and as
such, it is not compatible with the ident path being used in AMW-4, to
overcome this I have temporarily changed the ident path to one that should
work.
It has been quite successfully digi'ing my mobile into the I-gate, I am
using a path of WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2.

I did however note today that it seemed a bit 'deaf' when I was mobile
this
morning, it was passing traffic from AMW-1, but seemed to not 'hear' me.
I
will check my set-up before I hit the panic buttons on the digi...

The link from AMW-4 into RGI-1 seems to be nonexistent at the moment so we
will be relying on AMW-1 to get the info into the APRS-IS system. Once we
get it moved into the proposed new site, the coverage will increase
dramatically and it will have a clear path into RGI-1 and AMW-1. But with
the site owner in QLD at the moment, getting a hold of him is proving
quite
a challenge.

No problems..

It seems that the issue is that the path between VK2AMW-4 and VK1RGI-1 has
become 'intermittent'. This path results in only 2 hops to the Canberra
IGate, so WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 would work provided the path is there.

In the current conditions, the path to the nearest IGate is actually
VK2AMW-4,VK2AMW-1,VK2US-1 - 3 hops which is why WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1 doesn't
quite do the trick. The reason the posit of the digi itself wasn't being
seen is that VK2AMW-1 is still to be upgraded to support the paths that
were
being used by AMW-4 for its posit beacon. Since AMW-1 isn't normally in
the
path it shouldn't matter, but until the path issues are overcome the
beacon
path on AMW-4 has been changed to a path that will work into Sydney :-)

The move of AMW-4 is still on, we're just trying to pin down the owner of
the new site to work out when.

Regards,
Geoff VK2XJG

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for the update ...

Doing a bit of checking, I agree that AMW-4 must be having problems as it
seems it is able to digipeat positions to AMW-1 while its own positions
are
not always heard .. I suspect that as I frequently see on the net stations
heard by AMW-4 however AMW-4 rarely shows ...
http://aprs.fi/?addr=QF55HC26GL

I think I also worked out that it may need a path of WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2 to be
heard by the SATGAT ... When it is up reliably I'll check further as my
usual setting for Sydney (WIDE1-1,WIDE2-1) is heard by AMW-4 (I get my
position echoed back) however I don't appear on FINDU with that path but
WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2 seems to work.

On an unrelated topic, I frequently hear your ctcss packets while I drive
too and from work (Gerroa to Homebush) as I have ctcss enabled too ..
VK2US-1 seems to be working quite well, I have been able to get a position
heard each morning as I leave home and drive around the Kiama bends which
is
a path length of 105.7Km according to a site I use
http://aprs.fi/info/VK2HIM-7

Cheers
Ian

Hi Ian,

Just relaying some info from Peter VK1NFI who maintains that digi...

VK2AMW-4 has supported the New-N for approximately 12 months, and
certainly
supports WIDE1-1. It was tested over the weekend and again this morning
from Peter's mobile setup and is working fine. It is also transmitting
its
position, however it currently is not reliably being heard by either
VK2AMW-1 or VK1RGI-1 digipeaters, and therefore is not being seen by any
IGate. This will hopefully be rectified in teh next couple of days.

The planned relocation is still being discussed with current and proposed
site owners

Regards,
Geoff VK2XJG
