So I went to a hill and tried it for one pass.

Here is what I found, which is not what I thought !

*** Sent my position via PCSAT from the car - far enough

VK4TEC-9>RW32U4,RELAY,WIDE <UI R>:
`Q\?l#R>/]"6'}
VK4TEC-9>RW32U4,PCSAT-1*,WIDE <UI R>:
`Q\?l#R>/]"6'}

*** Digi'ed PCSAT back to home - far enough

PCSAT-1>BEACON,SGATE <UI>:
T#673,017,030,051,088,214,00111111,0100,1
PCSAT-1>BEACON,VK4TEC-9* <UI>:
T#673,017,030,051,088,214,00111111,0100,1

*** Sent my position via PCSAT from the car - far enough

VK4TEC-9>RW32U4,RELAY,WIDE <UI R>:
`Q\?l#R>/]"6'}
VK4TEC-9>RW32U4,PCSAT-1*,WIDE <UI R>:
`Q\?l#R>/]"6'}

*** Home heard it, but the car did not digi it !

PCSAT-1>BEACON,SGATE <UI>:
>041404z Cleared 68 hr timer, WB4APR

*** Sent my position via PCSAT from the car - far enough

VK4TEC-9>RW32U4,RELAY,WIDE <UI R>:
`Q\?l#R>/]"6'}
VK4TEC-9>RW32U4,PCSAT-1*,WIDE <UI R>:
`Q\?l#R>/]"6'}

On this occasion, there was no benefit from being up the hill.

None, it would QRM the uplink for every pacekt heard.

I really don't like any terrestrial digipeating via SGATE,
because
1) There is too much potential for human error to jam the
uplink
2) Packets that get digipeated on the ground do not show
PCSAT-1* in them and so those packets do not get picked up by
FINDU.

It just messes everythign up. Any mobile should be able to hear
PCSAT-1 direct, even better than a home station due to less coax
loss, so I prefer people just listen to the satellite if they
want to hear it.
