[OZAPRS] APRS in-car setup

Hi,

My installation is this:

HF FT857 and Tinytrack into data port, antenna is a mobile whip with SG230
Tuner mounted on bullbar.
VHF, the same Tinytrack, into an old Kenwood Handheld, running about 3
Watts
and a small 1/4 antenna at the back of the vehicle.
I installed a small toggle switch into the Tinytrack case to either select
primary or secondary configurations and these are set up for VHF and HF
tones respectively. I also use another small switch to select the output
from the Tinytrack to go either to the 857 or the Kenwood HT.
The HT is always on, so, I can always track the vehicle if the Mrs is
about
in it, hi.......
When we go outback travelling, the HF is the go.
I use a small mouse type GPS to provide pos data. It just sits on the
dashboard and again, it is on all the time. So, total cost (without the HF
Gear) is about $60.00 for Tinytrack, $100.00 for Mouse GPS, $70.00 for old
Handheld. So, that's $230.00 and I still have full use of my other VHF
radio
in the car. The antennas are at opposite corners and since the APRS VHF
only
runs a few watts, there is no issue with intermod etc.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Looks like I'll save my pennies for a
D700. Does anyone around here have one for sale?

Cheers,
