How good is the drift on the primary ?

No point having a master that drifts

Gday Dick,

The HF Gates (some times also an IGate) transmit at pre-set intervals to
allow the accurate tuning or 'Netting' of all other HF stations to the
Primary or Secondary Net Stations.

As the frequency tolerance is tight for HF and radios in mobiles tend to
drift the beacon rate required to tune and retune the radio needs to be
relatively high.

The Primary Net station VK3MY-4 transmits once every 5 minutes on HF. The
Secondary Net Stations VK4DMI-4 and ZL1GTB also transmit once every 5
minutes on HF. All other Gates should set their beacon rates to transmit
once every 20 minutes or more on HF.

If the Gates run VHF or APRS-IS on a second port then you may see them
beacon their HF posit on the second port more often than the HF port.
VK8ZAB-4 for examples does not transmit on HF, he sends all posit to
APRS-IS
at the 30 minute rate.

Cheers
Richard
