[OZAPRS] European v USnewparadigmand pathlimiting +confusion....

I would like to remind all on why the new widen-n paradigm discussion was
started as it has been sidetracked for the most part by ZONEn-n.
To hopefully move the use of APRS forward in VK. Terry you say it isn't
broken. That may be the case in your area. Here in the Western suburbs of
Sydney I think it is. If as previosly stated a new or potential new APRS
operator looks around the net what does he find? He finds reference after
reference as to why the old system should be dropped and the new paradigm
in
wide use overseas. He has a closer look to home and all he finds is what
outwardly appears to be an outdated and defunct system. So what are they
likely to think. Possibly like myself that APRS has stagnated here in
Australia. But unlike myself they just might move on.
How about looking progressive. The proposed changes are not that
complicated.
If for now you want to keep using RELAY then so be it. All you have to do
is move WIDE to UITRACE at the digis so we get the benefit of DUPE packet
checking. Plus change the beacons to reflect support for the new WIDEn-n
paradigm and RELAY if you wish. For the current operators your PATH
becomes
RELAY,WIDE2-1 for the same amount of hops as RELAY,WIDE. For those that
think the new paradigm is the way to go then they will use WIDE1-1,
WIDE2-1
for the two hops as appears to be the case in SA.
Is that asking too much?
This then keeps both sides of the debate happy and all this new paradigm
discussion can cease.
At home why not put WIDE1-1 in your alias list it sits quite comfortably
there next to RELAY.
I support both with the fill in digi I run even though my beacon advocates
that MOBILES use WIDE1-1,WIDE2-2 three hops.

Half a step forward is better than none at all.
