Gday,

ISS & ISS Ground station news.

>From reports received it looks like the ISS APRS digipeater has been
switch
back on.

Unfortunately the main VK3 ground station for ISS has been temporarily
decommissioned due to a pending house move.

There are vacancies for the position of a permanent Rx SatGates for
Australia. If you would like to operate a 24/7 Sgate for APRS please let
me
know. All that is required is a 2mtr receiver on 145.800Mhz, a ¼ wave
ground
plane, good coax, a reliable PC running UI-View and a broadband
connection.

VK3REB-1 Experiment

The digipeater VK3REB-1 is not available for normal use as it is being
used
for an experiment to measure the relative non-local packet traffic that is
seen by Gippsland. The digipeater has been configured to repeat any
non-VK3
generated packets including TAS3-3. The number of transmissions made by
the
digi are measured by SiteAlert and displayed on a graph at
http://vk3.aprs.net.au/digi_site_graphs.htm#REB%20ptt VK3REB-1 produces 4
administration packets of it’s own every ½ hour, all other digipeated
packet
counts are from interstate. You can clearly see from the graph when
conditions are better than normal for ‘DX’. This is a good example of how
many ‘DX’ packets local APRS packets have to compete with.

Cheers

Richard
