[OZAPRS] APRS in aircraft in OZ

Gee Daryl I like the reference to NOT an ultralight. I am the
owner/builder/pilot of a Jabiru that is a recreational aircraft (nee
ultralight) and a "full 2 seat plane".
We recreational aircraft types are defensive B#$%@3$S.
I share the hanger with an RV6 & RV8. (I'm not proud)

Above text tongue in cheek.

I run APRS in a self contained "lunch box" using a H/H 2mx, TT3 and Garmin
55 for tracking only.
Works very well.

I'm sure you could forget about taking APRS gear on a commercial flight.

I have used APRS on Helicopters using 0.5-5W on handhelds with engineering
certificates for the mechanical arrangement of secureing the hardware.

I have also had a GPRS tracker in a helicopter without issue. Not sure of
the approvals that went with that one... If any.

And I am building a plane with a friend in my spare time. We intend to put
some tracking equipment in it... Not sure what yet - maybe CDMA, but we
will
see how the technology goes in the next 18 months... Right now the wings
are
built, and we are starting on the fuselage this weekend. And it is NOT an
ultralight. It is a full 2 seat plane - Vans RV7A. (www.rvproject.com to
see
one in action)

I have used GPS in flight a few times - and I have a boeing service letter
on radio receivers here somewhere.

A few years ago I took a tiny track and a handheld up with a internal
antenna .. We went for a ride in a Cessna 172 .. As I knew the pilot all
was
ok with him.. He asked a few questions about power levels and frequencies
and all was fine..We kept the whole install inside the aircraft .. As for
comercial flights .. Forget it .. You will never get permission by todays
rules..
