Hi Brian,
I think this reply will be rejected by the OZAPRS service. I am registered
as
rsmitj at tpgi.com.au and if you look you will see this message is coming
from
rsmitj at tpg.com.au (one letter different). I am replying from the uni and
accessing
the ISP's post-office remotely.
I now that no hf transmitter is running at home so the digipeating is not
there.
I am relaying to vhf though just about anything with wide as the second
alias. I
don't think I have tune or echo set at home.
I am not sure when I will be travelling to Brisbane again but would like
to set up
40m again for a test. I will be travelling to Rocky in my own car at the
start of the
school vacation coming up so might try 40m then. It will be interesting
to see how
it goes in the 10 to 100km range which is important for WICEN. I know that
the
location of vk4rga, well to the west, almost at Biloela, was partly to
make it
unlikely it would be damaged by a storm which hit Gladstome so there would
be a link
to Rocky. However, it is solar and my tests indicate that its panels and
batteries
would support about 18 hours at 4 beacons a minute in cloudy weather.
Full sunlight
is different and far better giving 24/7. So it has limited potential.
One of the sites I am investigating for the aprs digi has solar and wind.
My tests in Brisbane for BARCFEST indicate that on 30m I could reach Des
up to about
20km, maybe 15 km, and that was similar to my only test trip on 30m up
here which was
from Calliope to Gladstone and return.
Any thoughts?
Cheers
Ron
