Great thoughts.   I think all 3 possible solutions, as you outlined
them,
are workable, each with greater or lesser degrees of difficulty. 
There
maybe a solution combining ideas from more than one of your
suggestions.  We
will think it all through, and report when we get something running.

The i-gate I forward to on RF already does some integrity checking, by
looking for my callsign (with no SSID) as an alias substitute for the
SGATE
unproto.  It may not be too difficult to get my call replaced so that
the
packet is as it was if it had been directly received from space by the
i-gate.
