 THANKS Andrew, and others.  You are dead right. I had to tell the GPS to
use NMEA protocol.
It now works fine.

Make sure your interface type in your GPS is "NMEA Out"
 
Make sure your GPS can support $GPRMC NMEA Sentences.
 
The fact you TT3 is sending all zero's indicates that something does not
line up
